Postnatal Recovery, why you need this!

Postnatally, there is so much going on for new mums in this special and sometimes scary time. You’ve been through childbirth, (which is a massive undertaking in itself) and your long waited baby has finally arrived. Your body has gone through immense change and sometimes trauma or surgery. It can be a time of such joy, and sometimes difficultly. Now you have a whole new person (or people) to look after, and life will never be the same again! (Not to mention the complete exhaustion from lack of sleep). For me, I experienced all of these things, and can totally appreciate the value of building a really good strong network of women who are all in the same boat, which is why I will be teaching Postnatal Yoga at my new studio.

 

Taking part in a weekly Postnatal Yoga class and being part of a supportive group of women who are all going through similar experiences is really helpful during this time when you need things to do that make you feel good about yourself and all the changes that are happening on a daily basis, in a safe and nurturing environment. The networks of friends that you make during pregnancy and postnatally often end up being your friends for life. These are the friends you end up talking about all sorts of things from the colour of poo to sore nipple remedies and you’ll laugh together a lot about all the wonders of having a newborn!

 

Postnatal yoga is more than just an opportunity to get together with other mums and have a laugh, it can help to address some of the common problems such as:

-       Weak tummy and pelvic floor by strengthening and stabilizing 

-       Loose, achy joints by moving gently and mindfully 

-       Tiredness and emotional instability by using pranayama (breathing) and nada (sound) and yoga nidra (deep relaxation)

-       Low back pain by strengthening and stabilizing 

-       Connecting and bonding with your new baby

 

What happens during a postnatal yoga class, and why it’s so good for you and your baby:

1. We will nurture - You will be guided through nurturing practices such as healing breath, restorative poses and yoga nidra all of which can be done with your baby. We may introduce different types of sonic massage which are very calming, bonding and nurturing practices.

2. We will stabilise - Practices to help stabilize your pelvic floor and abdominal areas, these exercises can be done whilst sitting with your baby nearby or even on your lap.

3. We will restore vitality - Movements with a bit more energy! There are lots of movements where baby’s weight can be used as part of the moving practice and this is a great way to interact with your baby during the class.

4. We will have time for tea, cake and chatting!

 

You will be surrounded by other mums and babies so you can expect this class to be relaxed, noisy at times, and sometimes smelly – and all of this is absolutely OK!

 

Classes start on Tuesday 30th October at 11.15am – 12.15pm £9 drop in which includes herbal tea and cake.
